High Tide

High Tide was created after the 2014 Summer when there was an incredible number of dead birds on the beach. After weeks of walking around the birds, all that was left was feather and bone. I started to draw the wings, bones and feathers on the beach, as they seemed to communicate the fragility of the environment on which they had come to rest. I then started to draw other objects collected after the changing tide: bunches of swivels, bones, shells, sea urchins, dried Neptune’s Necklace and numerous bundles of fishing line entwined in seaweed. The objects I found myself drawn to in this series give a glimpse of what is floating beneath the surface and express the beauty and delicate nature of the environment.
